“There is a part of me that wants to hold on to the traditional methods and the skills that have been passed down through generations.”
Scottish-born Kyla has been hailed as London’s Queen of Origami. After studying in Cologne and Milan, what started as a hobby quickly became an obsession.
With paper as her main tool, Kyla’s origami-inspired geometric designs often involve thousands of folds, each one made by hand with razor-blade precision. What began as a range of lighting installations has now evolved into set design, packaging and window displays.
Building on an age-old craft, Kyla experiments with new materials, designs and fabrics, developing innovative concepts with their own unique aesthetic and incredible attention to detail. And whilst some are successes and others failures, each and every one of these mind-boggling creations take her another step closer to a richer life.
